My ranking in the Cruel group has stayed at 14th. It seems this is where my level has converged. Recently, because I have been busy writing my master’s thesis, and on the other hand autumn recruitment has ended, I have not even done check-in problems. Only in November did I resume doing the daily problem on the US and Chinese servers to earn points for clothes. As for the Cruel group, because I can basically exempt myself from check-in, I have not checked in there for a month.

I have performed well in weekly contests for four consecutive weeks. Happy. My group ranking has also stabilized at 15th. In the end, I still cannot enter the top 10, but I am already satisfied.

This week’s weekly contest continued the strong momentum, and my ranking was also very high. Together with last week’s ranking, my rank in the Cruel group rose to a new high, 11th.

This week’s problems were pretty good, and my own ranking was also nice. I ACed 10 minutes early. I like this kind of tense and exciting feeling. When I ACed 40 minutes early last week, I actually was not as happy as today.
Because my rankings in two consecutive weekly contests were very high, my rank in the Cruel group also rose to 15th. A long-lost highest position. Keep it up.

I have crashed in two consecutive biweekly contests.
The third problem passed two minutes after the contest ended. It was originally within my ability, but I got too anxious near the end. My state was not good at night in the first place, and ironically I wrote it right after the contest was over.

All the problems in this contest were routine problems. I did not run into real difficulties and finally made it into the top 100 again after a long while. It was hard-won. My ranking in the Cruel group also rose to 25 because of it.

I crashed again in this biweekly contest. Life really is full of ups and downs and then more downs… Problems 3 and 4 were actually still possible to solve, but my state during the contest was bad and I made the wrong decision. After looking at problem 3 for two minutes without an idea, I switched to problem 4. Then I overcomplicated problem 4, spent quite a bit of time implementing it, and still got stuck with TLE in the end.

It has been three and a half months since I last wrote a weekly contest summary. It is indeed a pity that the habit of writing weekly contest solutions, which I had kept for half a year, was interrupted. But at that time, it was unavoidable. In July I was busy with my short paper; in August came the proposal and midterm; in September the semester officially started; and since early July I had also been doing my summer internship at Amazon. There really were more tasks than before. Back then I felt overwhelmed and did not have enough energy to do everything well. Each weekly contest writeup usually takes half a day, and together with the contest itself, it basically costs a whole day. The energy drain from competing and writing solutions is obvious. Although the writeups stopped for these three months, I still kept participating in contests as usual. After all, I joined the “Cruel Problem Solving” group, and with more people doing weekly contests together, the feedback and enthusiasm from competing every week became stronger.

Over these three months, my ranking in the Cruel group also went up and down and down and down… At best I was ranked 15th, and at worst I had already fallen to 90th. Overall, I feel that I am better at conventional, not-too-hard problems. When I encounter something I have not seen before or have not practiced much, it is very easy for me to fail on the last problem.

Yesterday I confirmed the conversion process with my Amazon manager. After that, it is basically just process. With an ideal offer in hand, the tense string of full-time recruiting finally relaxed. I now feel like spending time on things I want to do: reading a few books I have always wanted to read, seriously doing several contests, and rebuilding the habit of writing solution posts. Of course, the internship and my graduation thesis are still the main tasks right now and need most of my time. But at last I have the energy to be happy.
