In Deep Mourning for Haoel

R.I.P.

I was fortunate to be in the same problem-solving group as 左耳朵耗子. When everyone heard the news, we thought it was a rumor and even mentioned him in the group. But with multiple sources confirming it, it should be true now.

左耳朵耗子 chat history in the Buddhist Problem Solving group

I first learned about him through his blog 酷壳 - COOLSHELL, probably from the VIM series. At that time I was still in university and had just started studying computer science. His blog helped me a lot.

Self-introduction on 左耳朵耗子's blog

The closest I came to sudden death was in the first semester of my junior year, when I worked on a compiler lab until 6 a.m. At the time I felt something was wrong, and my heart felt uncomfortable. So I went back to the dorm and slept. From then on, I chose to lie flat: no more grinding, no more chasing endless upward progress. During graduate school, a sophomore in our school died suddenly in the library while working on a Computer Organization lab. I have also been through Computer Organization, and thinking about it, the pressure really was too much. After work, there are even sudden-death news stories in China’s computer industry every year.

Finally, I want to introduce a GitHub repo to fellow programmers: 程序员延寿指南 geekan/HowToLiveLonger. Being alive is truly good. Cherish it.
